The Reference Area is the research hub of the libary.
There are reference librarians on duty at all times to assistant with research needs and questions about the library.
Sixty-seven computers are available for research and other academic activities
(see Computer Use Policy).
Circulation

Circulation handles check outs and library account issues, such as books on hold, fines for late and lost books,
and Access Cards. The Circulation Desk also houses the Reserve and Media collections.
Technical Services

Technical Services is responsible for ordering, cataloging and processing library materials.
This department is not open to the public.
Off-campus access to library databases is restricted to current students and employees.
A current Student or Staff Access card is necessary for remote access to the databases.

Both printing and photocopying are available in the library.
Printing
A copy card is required to use the print station.
Students use their Access Cards as copy cards.
All others may buy a copy card for $1.
Printing costs $.10 per page and is available in black and white only.
Photocopying
There are three photocopiers in the library portables, one of which will print
in color. Standard letter and legal sized copies are $.10 per page; 11x20 sized
paper is $.20 per page; Color copies are $.75 per page.
The library provides no group study rooms during the remodel, through August
2010. The following policies apply to group study rooms, which will
re-open in the new library:
- Rooms are available on a first come, first served basis. They cannot be reserved.
- Priority is given to groups over individuals. Groups have the right to bump individuals using the study rooms.
- Rooms are for academic use only.
Users of library computers must adhere to the Los Rios Community College District Computer Use Policy.
Computers in the reference area are available for library research and other educational activities. Personal, non-educational use is not allowed. All library computers utilize NetSupport software, which allows student computer screens to be viewed and monitored in real time to ensure computers are being used appropriately.
Reference computers offer Internet access and the Microsoft Office suite. Students doing academic activities that require additional software installation should go to the Learning Resource Center.
No library computers are available for personal use or email.

LIBR302: Basic Research SKills
This survey course is an introduction to library skills. It examines how information is organized, introduces library services and resources, and teaches basic search strategies when using print and electronic sources. Access to and use of an academic library is required.
LIBR310: Introduction to Genealogy Research
This course introduces genealogy research methods utilizing sources dating from colonial times to the present. Topics include evaluating and choosing genealogical resources, developing skills to analyze data, and organizing family history information using print forms or a software program.
LIBR318: Library Research and Information Literacy
This course provides the information competency skills necessary to conduct academic or personal research. It offers a step-by-step guide to the research process that is applicable to term papers, course work, and life-long learning.
LIBR320: Introduction to Internet Research
This course provides an introduction to the Internet as an information and resources search tool for academic and personal use. It includes a brief history of the Internet, as well as various skills and strategies for locating, retrieving and evaluating information from the Internet. Topics include basic Internet navigation techniques, search tools, website evaluation criteria, searching strategies and ethical/legal issues involving the Internet.
LIBR325: Internet Research Skills
This course is a comprehensive survey of the content, use, and evaluation of electronic information sources. Emphasis is placed on the effective use of the Internet as a research tool. It covers Internet resources, online databases, email, newsgroups, listservs, blogs and the deep web. Database search strategies and techniques are covered. Historical and social issues surrounding the Internet are also discussed.
