This is a slapstick, inane, vaudeville-style musical farce based on the Marx Brothers movie of the same title. (See the end of this post for tips and for more info). Directed by Tracy Martin Shearer. Other production team members include Sam Williams, Michael MacLennan, Kayleigh Bunce, Thomas Andersen, and Noah Flores with a terrific live combo!
Scripts available for a 24-hour checkout in the ARC Fine & Applied Arts Division Office. (916) 484-8433. Other resources recommended below.
I will be casting 14-16 people (not the 9 suggested in the script) of all ages and ethnicities. (Approx. 7 women and 8 men)
No prepared pieces required. Audition will consist of cold readings, improvisation, and (for some characters) singing and dancing. Bring shoes you can move easily in (and tap and jazz shoes if you already have them).
Bring your calendars/schedules so you may mark any conflicts with the rehearsal schedule (posted at auditions). Limited rehearsals will begin in February, with most rehearsals late March and April. Rehearsaks are usually 7-10p Mon-Fri with some weekend rehearsals. Production dates are April 26 – May 5, 2019.

If you want to be better prepared for this audition, I recommend you get familiar with the Marx Brothers and their unique brand of comedy. Find or order any of their movies, including “Animal Crackers” and enjoy! (Our show will feel quicker, and will not include some of the politically incorrect stuff from the 1920s & 30s). Knowing some of the trademark ‘schtick’ used by any of the four Marx Brothers will come in handy, and I also welcome your own personal brand of funny.
