Course Objectives: The course will introduce you to the role of the tutor and the methods of effective group tutoring. In addition, you will develop an understanding of the vast educational and tutoring-related resources available to you on Web. You will be expected to be able to apply the knowledge gained in the online course and workshops to your group tutoring sessions.

Units: One - Transferable to CSU Hours: Online and Face-to-face* Course (*Mandatory monthly workshops, see below)


This course includes four workshops. They are held once a month for 90 minutes. Please arrange your schedule accordingly. Workshops are held on Fridays and it's offered twice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon, attend either session. You will receive 100 points for attending.

  • Workshop 1: Friday, February 5
  • Workshop 2: Friday, March 5
  • Workshop 3: Friday, April 9
  • Workshop 4: Friday, May 7

Time: 9:00-10:30am or 2:00-3:30pm, your choice

NOTE: As a Beacon tutor, you must maintain good standing in this tutor training course while you are tutoring. You must stop tutoring if you fall below a "C" average in the course.
