What: The California State University (CSU) System consists of 23 campuses. It is the largest system of higher education in the U.S. and grants over 50% of the bachelor's degrees in the State of California every year. The CSU system offers bachelors, masters, and some joint doctorate programs in 240 subject areas-plus a full range of teaching and school service credentials. Over 70% of the students who graduates from the CSU system entered as transfer students! Students may attend the CSU part-time as well as full-time and many evening class are offered.

How: The smoothest way to transfer to the CSU from a community college is to complete a transfer program consisting of a minimum of 60 transferable units with at least a 2.0 "C" grade point average. Included in these units should be completion of either CSU general education requirements or IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer curriculum). For the rest of your units you should try and complete lower-division major requirements if available.

  Important:
  1. If you follow a transfer program as described above your admission will be solely based on your college record. You will not be required to submit high schools records or SAT/ACT test results.
  2. As long as you complete a transfer program as describe above you will meet the requirements for admissions into any CSU campus with any major. The only exceptions are impacted majors/campuses. In these cases you will need to complete additional requirements, often with a higher grade point average. Consult the Transfer Center or a counselor for complete details.
  3. Requirements may differ for international and foreign educated students. Consult with a counselor or the CSU campus.

Cost: CSUs are public universities and at present cost approximately $2000.00 per year for California residents. Financial aid is available for qualified applicants. Financial Aid Applications are available at the Financial Aid Office, Contact the Financial Aid Office at the CSU campuses in which you are interested for deadlines, dates and information.

  Admission Application:

All students must submit an admission application (for some campuses it can be completed on-line). If you are applying to more than one campus, a separate admission application must be submitted for each campus.

Most CSU campuses are on the semester system, but some are on the quarter system. You are urged to apply early!

Application filing periods are:

Oct. 1 - Nov. 30 for fall quarter/semester

August 1-31 for spring/quarter semester

Feb 1-28 for summer quarter

June 1-30 for winter quarter.

Applications are available at the Transfer Center.

Online applications are available at www.csumentor.edu

Important: It is very important that you meet with a counselor to develop an education plan which will list courses needed by semester, in order to transfer successfully. The Transfer Center also offers: a variety of transfer and application workshops, arranges individual appointments for students with representatives from various CSU campuses, and campus tours.
