Deadlines near for scholarship apps |

Students who struggle with financing their education may not be aware of the on-campus resources available at American River College and at the ARC Career Center. The two have a way of helping students financially. Along with the ARC Foundation, students have many options for obtaining funding through the extensive scholarship funds available to them. Outside scholarships also are available at the Career Center through online services. Student Personnel Assistant Jennifer Garcia says thousands of scholarships are waiting to be claimed. scholarships for students of all levels of education, nationality, abilities, and gender. Each scholarship has its own requirements in filling out the application, like an essay to explain background, accomplishments, and goals. All scholarships are available for currently enrolled students and those with plans of entering college. Six units must be passed from the fall semester and six are needed to be enrolled in this semester to be eligible for the scholarships. Letters of recommendation are required, which can be written by an ARC faculty member or counselor or even from a past or present employer. Volunteer work is also asked about |
and looked at in high regard. “It’s not based just on GPA anymore,” said Garcia. Brandon Sullivan, a first semester student at ARC, says he wasn’t aware scholarships are available for students, whether a continuing or transferring student. “I didn’t know about the scholarships, but I would apply,” said Sullivan.
