It was a game that started off quickly and for the ARC Lady Beavers, it was one in which the opponent controlled the tempo for the entire basketball game. Within the first three minutes of Nov. 17 game against De Anza College, the Lady Beavers fouled and launched the game in favour of the Dons. After making their first free throw of the game, De Anza would keep a lead against the Beavers, winning 69-47. The Beavers struggled with offense and defense throughout the entire |
game. Because of these apparent struggles, the Beavers were down at the half, 33 to 20. When the chance came to make a new start and come up with the lead after halftime, the Beavers failed to do so. The Beavers committed a total of five fouls in the second half and De Anza was able to score six points from these fouls. After a hard game for the Beavers, ARC left with a loss, bringing ARC's overall record down to 0-5 and 0-0 Conference. ARC's Melissa Rice finished in |
double figures, scoring 13. And Lashanna Ingraham played strong inside, finishing with 10 rebounds. Coach J.R. Matsunami attributes the loss to a youthful team and says she has a plan for what to improve. "We are improving. In the post, we are scoring. We need to learn to play against zones," she said. "This is a new team, where we're learning everyone's strength. Eventually, they (the losses) will turn to wins." The Beavers next home game is Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. when the team faces the College of the Siskiyous. |
