Student, staff strut their arts at Kaneko

While most students are fretting over their upcoming finals, the Kaneko Gallery is hosting the fall salon art show.   This show consisted of art from faculty and students. And is a well-known fundraiser for the Kaneko Gallery and the Pruner Scholarship Fund.

"This is a good show," said Mick Sheldon, the director of the gallery.

There were a large variety of artwork types, such as oil paintings, canvas paintings, charcoal, and acrylic along with a few ceramic pieces.

According to Sheldon, much of the artwork has already been purchased by faculty and donated back to the Pruner scholarship. This scholarship is very important to the art program as it provides art supplies to students who don't have the money for supplies. Prices for

the artwork ranged from $60 to $1,000.

Gary Pruner, who the scholarship was named after, continues to be a well-known person in the art program and contribute towards the art program here at American River College.

Another item that was on display were the Anatomically Correct Frog, playfully referred to as the "Naughty Frogs" designed by Laura Parker. Each of the frogs cost $15.   Sheldon stated that these frogs could be found in the Art-O-Matic machine located in the art area.

Along with the art show, next door to it there was a jewelry show that was showing off another form of originality.

"We try to do this yearly around this time," said Dolores White, an

assistant for the jewelry show. "We have been doing this for five years."

Students that entered the room next door from the Kaneko Gallery were greeted by lots of different jewelry types.

Artist Dawn Harms was there showcasing her necklaces, earrings and bracelets.

"I have known Dolores [White] for a long time and I enjoying doing this kind of stuff," said Harms.

Being up to date on the trends for jewelry allows the artist to be competitive among commercial products.

"Swarovski Crystals are the new trend for this year. They have the best quality and they are beautiful," said White.
