Typical Services for Students with General Disabilities:

In-Class Notetaker:

Will assist students who have difficulty taking notes or are unable to physically take notes. You are responsible to locate an in-class notetaker from your class.
NOTE: Your notetaker can be hired on either a paid or volunteer status.

  • If your notetaker would like to volunteer without filling out any forms (application, payroll etc.), you need to contact the General Disabilities office at 484-8707 and inform us regarding the volunteer notetaker from class. This enables us to update our records and make sure that you are receiving services. Your notetaker will NOT be on file with the DSPS.
  • If your notetaker would like to volunteer and earn credit, you must have them complete the student aide application and return to the General Disabilities office asap.
  • If your notetaker would like to get paid, you must have them complete the student aide application and return to the General Disabilities office asap.
The procedure to locate an in-class notetaker is as follows:
Pick up a student aide application from the DSPS office.

  • Write your name and class you need note-taking services for in the upper right hand corner of the application.

  • Check off the General Disabilities Services box in section 5 of the application.

If you know a classmate who is willing to be your notetaker, please have them complete the student aide application and return to the General Disabilities office asap.
If you don’t know anyone in class, you can also have the instructor announce to see that if someone’s willing to share notes with you, and then make sure you refer the person to us. Have them complete the student aide application and return to the General Disability office ASAP.
Upon receipt of the application, the General Disabilities office staff will contact your notetaker and process them accordingly.
