The American River College gerontology program provides specialized training for employment in business and agencies that provide services for the elderly, and/or preparation for upper division work in gerontology. All students must complete a 30-unit gerontology core and a nine-unit option in the A.A. degree or certificate program.

The Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) in Washington DC has awarded the American River College Gerontology Degree Program the designation of “Program of Merit” making it the first community college in the nation to receive this honor and one of only five colleges and universities designated in the country.
