Who can use ARC Health Services?
Health Services may be utilized by all ARC students, faculty and staff.
Do I need an appointment to see a nurse?
Most services are provided on a drop in basis, however, appointments to discuss a specific problem are accepted. Appointments are required for hearing and vision screening. As our nurses are on call to respond to campus emergencies, it is advisable to call to ensure a nurse is available at the time you plan to visit Health Services.
What is the cost to use ARC Health Services?
Most health services are free. Fees are charged for pregnancy testing, immunizations, and for those individuals who need repeat TB skin tests because they failed to return for follow-up.
Does ARC Health Services provide health insurance?
ARC Health Services does not provide health insurance. However, we have information available on various types of student health and dental plans. Contact the Sacramento County Department of Health & Human Services at (916) 874-2072 to determine your eligibility for government assistance.
I have no health insurance. Where can I go if I am sick?
Health Services can provide information about appropriate referrals. You may also contact Sacramento County Clinic Services at (916) 874-8912, where fees are charged according to eligibility and services provided. The County clinics are not emergency care facilities. If you have an emergency, call 911 for instructions or go to the nearest emergency room.
Can I get an absence note from ARC Health Services?
The Health Center DOES NOT provide absence notes to instructors. It is your responsibility to contact the instructor if you are going to miss a class.
I broke my leg and have a cast. Am I eligible for a disabled parking permit?
Health Services provides both short term and long term Disabled Parking Permits. Long term permits must be updated each semester. To apply, you will need a copy of your driver's license number and vehicle license number. You will also be given two forms: a Verification of Disability form that needs to be completed by your physician and returned to Health Services and a Confidential Information form which must be completed by the applicant. Parking permits issued are for campus use only and ARE NOT valid off campus.
Can I get a physical examination at ARC Health Services?
You cannot get a physical examination at ARC Health Services. If a physical examination is needed, and you have no physician, Health Services can provide referral options.
Do you provide birth control, or test for pregnancy and/or sexually transmitted disease at ARC Health Services?
Many additional reproductive health services, such as pregnancy testing, STD testing, rapid HIV testing, birth control, and emergency contraception are available on Thursdays 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., or every other Friday 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., on appointment or walk-in basis. These services are free to those who qualify. Call ARC Health Services at (916) 484-8383 to schedule an appointment.Can I get prescriptions from ARC Health Services?
The Health Services does not write or fill prescriptions for medication.
What types of hearing and vision tests are available in Health Services?
Hearing and vision "screenings" are done by appointment. The tests administered are for screening purposes only. If the screening indicates a potential problem with either hearing or vision, a referral will be made for further testing.
What kind of health information is available in Health Services? (Pamphlets, etc.)
Health Services has TONS of information on various health problems and topics, including information on all types of medications. However, there may be times when information requested is not readily available. In those instances, we will do whatever we can to help you find appropriate resources.
