	Charles Purcell, Professor The senior member of the horticulture department, Chuck has been teaching at American River College since 1975. He received his B.S. degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and an M.A. degree in Education from Sacramento State University. He has been honored by several state and local horticulture organizations for his excellence in education. 	Paul MacGowan, Professor/Department Chair Paul has taught at American River College since 1992, and is the Department Chair. He received his B.S. and M.S. from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obsipo. Prior to coming to ARC, Paul taught at Chico State University, Horticulture, for seven years ,and at Cal Poly State University, Horticulture, for three years. Paul has been an active C-27 licensed contractor since 1979, and is a Certified Landscape Water Auditor. photo	Ed Hollingsworth, Intructor Ed is a landscape contractor (C27) and owns his own company. He has worked in the landscape industry since 1972. He received his degree in Environmental Resources from CSU, Sacramento, and his vocational eduaction certification from UC Berkely. He is also a member of the California Landscape Contractors Association. Ed has taught for our horticulture department since 1984. He is currently teaching Small Gas Engines and Irrigation Design. 	Dave Patterson, Instructor Dave is the instructor for Horticulture 79, Pest Control Licensing for Certification, and has been a member of the horticulture department since 1986. He attended Sierra College and is a graduate of CSU San Luis Obispo, CA. photo	Jerry Gonsalves , Instructor Jerry joined the ARC Horticulture Department as an adjunct faculty member in 2005. He received his college training from Cal Poly State University, SLO and has his BS in Landscape Architecture. Jerry is a licensed Landscape Architect. He has more than 14 years experience as a Landscape Architect and Planner, and currently works with the Stantec Corp., of Sacramento.
