1. Microsoft Word XP and Adobe Acrobat 6 Professional

After installing the full version of Adobe Acrobat, you should have a new set of buttons on your Microsoft Word toolbar and a set of new drop down lists to work with as well.

The first step is to be sure that the settings for creating a pdf are the correct ones for submitting to us. So, go to the Adobe PDF dropdown and select Change Conversion Settings...

Now you are ready to create your PDF.

1. Open the file to be converted in Microsoft Word (this will work for any of the Microsoft Office applications btw).
2. Do one of the following:

• Choose Adobe PDF > Convert to Adobe PDF.
• Click the convert to Adobe PDF button on the toolbar.

Be sure to save it to somewhere you will remember to be able to get it from! Your Microsoft file has now been converted to Adobe PDF.

For basic—and slightly better than basic—PDF file creation at a great price, it's hard to beat Software995's pdf995. But if you're too strapped to pay $9.95, you can get the full version free (you just have to put up with a simple pop-up ad that appears every time you create a PDF file). Whichever version you use, people who view your PDF file will never know it was created so inexpensively.

pdf995 is the print driver that lets you create PDF files, but it has few setting options. A separate program, pdfEdit995, adds features such as support for watermarks, the ability to convert some external links to live links, and an Optimize command for Web pages. (full article from PC Magazine)
