The Re-entry Center assists new, returning and continuing adult students, approximately 25 years of age and older. Our services include initial information and a re-entry orientation class, plus ongoing counseling, and free workshops, support groups, as well as campus and community referrals and resource information.

The Re-entry Center provides the only program on campus that specializes in addressing the needs and concerns of adult students who are making the transition back to school. By taking advantage of our services, coming back to school will be less stressful and your chances for successful completion of your educational goals will increase greatly.

Attending an orientation session or class is not a requirement. However, we believe that students who attend an orientation develop a comfort level with our college programs and procedures--an excellent "first step" and a great foundation for college success. We strongly advise that you consider taking Human/Career Development 50, a one-unit, three-day orientation class designed especially for re-entry students like you.

For someone who has never attended college before, we highly recommend you begin your college experience with a visit to the Re-entry Center. A student mentor will answer your questions and help you make an appointment with a counselor who can assist you in making decisions about school and career.

You're not alone. Many people encounter barriers when attempting to further their education, such as:

• Fear of the unknown
• Being overwhelmed by the campus environment
• Fear of failure
• Fear that you don't have the commitment
• The assumption that most students are under 25 (see below)
• Lack of financial means
• Lack of time
• Insufficient or costly childcare (see below)
• Been out of school for a long time.

One of the best ways to ease your anxiety is to visit the Re-entry Center and meet with a student mentor who will be able to answer many of your questions and help you work through your concerns. The entire admissions process will be explained to you and you will be assisted in making a counseling appointment.Our Re-entry Center staff is available to provide additional resources and information to make your experience here at ARC a rewarding and successful one.

	Will I be the only student in my classes who is older?  Will most of the students be in their twenties?
In fact, 55 percent of our students are 25 or older, 21% are age 30-39, and 20% are 40 or older. You will find a wide variety of age groups represented in your classes.

The college offers a class for those with math anxiety (Math 20C), and there is free, drop-in tutoring in the Oak Tree Math Tutoring Center. Math tutoring is also available through the college's Learning Resource Center (LRC).

Our Re-entry Center and counseling staff offer you academic, career and personal counseling. Our counselors provide semester-by-semester assistance in your class selections and help with career clarification. The Re-entry Center counselors are particularly sensitive to the problems encountered by the adult student and work closely with adult students in an encouraging and supportive way. They have a wealth of information and experience to draw from to help you with any barrier you may encounter while pursuing your education here at ARC. If

You can start by meeting with a student mentor in the Re-entry Center, then attend a support group for re-entry students, and one or more of our workshops. You'll soon know many fellow students by name.

Our services focus on providing adult students with resources and clear, detailed information regarding issues specific to their situation. Our staff is well-trained in offering appropriate campus and community referrals. We encourage you to access Re-entry Center services any time you have questions or concerns:
