Athletic Training

American River College is proud of its athletic training program and facilities. The Athlete Trainers offer quality medical care to the student athletes and staff at ARC.

The athletic trainer's are responsible for the prevention, care, treatment and rehabilitation of our student athletes. The athletic training staff is first on the scene when an injury occurs. It is the athletic trainer's responsibility to evaluate the injury and determine the next course of action. That action is often treatment and rehabilitation in the athletic training room by our athletic training staff. One of the objectives of the athletic training program is to return the injured athlete back to full activity as quickly and safely as possible. The athletic trainers are able to provide individual care, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries allowing the athlete to return to their pre-injury performance level. Whatever the case may be, it is up to the athletic trainer to make the correct assessment and plot the proper course for full recovery.

about the program

American River College works in conjunction with California State University, Sacramento to provide students who are majoring in athletic training the opportunity to gain the knowledge and experience to earn their Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training.  Students who are selected into the athletic training program at CSUS are required to rotate through Athletic Trainer Gil Bejarano at ARC.  The volume of athletes and the variety of sports that are seen here give the student athletic trainers the valuable experience needed to succeed in their chosen profession.

ARC offers classes in athletic training and sports medicine. These classes are transferable to most of the National Athletic Trainers Association curriculum approved programs.

The classes offered are:

KINES 330:        Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries
KINES 334:        Practical Applications in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine

The athletic trainers are also involved with the Fitness Certificate Program offered at American River College:

KINES 404:        Identification and Management of Fitness Injuries
