SEVERAL
BEAVERS LAND ON THE HONOR ROLL
The 2009 baseball season
may have ended early for the Beavers but school was still in session
until Mid-May. Several members of the American River College
baseball team used the time wisely and earned academic
All-Conference honors. The list includes sophomores Josh Glaser
(Casa Roble) with a 3.27 for the Spring semester, Nick Young
(Granite Bay) 3.25, and Jameel Ziadeh (Granite Bay) with a 3.48. In
addition, freshmen Andrew Graham (Ponderosa) had a 3.38 gpa and
Kevin Rowell (Winters) led the team with a 3.79 grade point
average.
Other freshmen who had
over a 3.0 included Taylor Hoffman (Roseville) 3.12, Travis Meza
(Foothill) 3.04, and Zander Zeisler (Nevada Union) 3.10
Several others of note
included redshirts Richie Anderson (Marysville) 3.17, Ryan Dettman
(Del Campo) 3.17, Leo Fuentes (Reno High School) 3.4.
Overall the team GPA was
2.49 which is the second highest in team history to last years
2.55. “I am very proud that our team grade point average has risen
steadily over the past couple of years. It has taken a lot of hard
work from our counselor Mike Sachau and our Student-Athlete Support
Staff, including Frankie Johnson and our assistant coach Johnny
Zepeda to get our guys to really understand the importance of the
grades and the meaning of the word ‘Student’ in student-athlete. It
goes to show that regardless of how the season ends up the grades
are what matters the most”, says A.R.C. head coach Doug Jumelet.
