At the 107th annual

duo lost to Nicholas Gru and Rafael Lisboa 6-1, 6-2. Derek Brollier

On the road for the
NorCal semifinal match, the Beavers put up a battle with the Vikings
but lost some close matches en route to the loss. Jon Lup stepped
into the singles lineup and had a hand in both of the ARC victories
on the day. After dropping the first set, Lup won at No. 6 singles
2-6, 7-6(3), 6-3. At No. 3 doubles, Lup teamed up with Robert
Lester to win a marathon 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-6(4) match. “Even when the
match was decided, ARC players fought hard in the doubles,” said
Coach Bo Jabery-Madison. “They showed the same ‘no quit’ mentality
they had all year.” |

The Beavers opened
the first round of regional playoffs with a solid win over the
Pirates. “All year we have performed better in team matches than as
individuals in tournaments,” said Coach Bo Jabery-Madison. “I think
that is a sign of where our priorities lie, and I like it that
way.” ARC took four of the six singles matches, which proved to be
decisive since only one of those three matches was completed. Mike
Pentz and Derek Brollier sealed the ARC victory by winning in three
sets at No. 2. In singles, No. 2 Reed Stout and No. 5 Kevin Van
Streefkerk both stepped up their games in the final set to earn key
win. The Beavers advance to the second round of the regional
playoffs and travel to Diablo Valley on April 24 for a rematch with
the Vikings, the only team to beat them head-to-head this spring. |

Avi Kudupudi
advanced to quarterfinals of the singles competition in Santa Rosa,
highlighting the Beavers’ run in the league tournament. Kudupudi
earned an automatic bid to the NorCal Tournament; Derek Brollier and
Reed Stout each earned at-large bids to the NorCal Tournament, which
will be hosted by ARC on May 3-5. Mike Pentz was selected as a
first alternate. In doubles, two teams were seeded and both earned
a spot at the NorCal. Kudupudi and Stout (No. 3 seed) and Brollier
and Pentz (No. 7) both advanced to the quarterfinals. A third ARC
partnership, Jon Lup and Robert Lester, were named as a second

In
the final match of the regular season, the Beavers were beat up and
down the lineup as the Vikings handed ARC its first loss of the
year. There were few highlights for the Beavers, which had only one
match go three sets — the No. 3 doubles team of Robert Lester and
Jon Lup lost split the first two sets 6-2, 1-6 before dropping the
deciding set 6-4. “It’s a tough way to lose the final match of
conference,” said Coach Bo Jabery-Madison, “but it will give us the
fuel we need to improve by the time playoffs start.” |

In a pivotal
rematch, the Beavers went on the road and beat the Bear Cubs, who
this time around were competing at full strength. Mike Pentz won
the key match at No. 4. After losing the first set 3-6, Pentz came
back in the second set with a 6-3 win, setting up a nail-biting
third set. Pentz won the final set 7-6 by virtue of a 7-5 win in
the tiebreaker. No. 2 Derek Brollier, No. 3 Reed Stout, and No. 6
Jon Lup each earned wins in singles play. ARC won only one doubles
match, but that was all the Beavers needed as Pentz and Brollier
swept to a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2. “It was just an outstanding match
against a quality, full-strength Santa Rosa team,” said Coach Bo
Jabery-Madison. |

the day, taking his singles match and teaming up with Jon Lup to win
his doubles match. ARC’s Stout (No. 2) and Derek Brollier (No. 3)

three sets for the win. No. 2 Reed Stout and No. 3 Derek Brollier

at full strength,” said Coach Bo Jabery-Madison, who noted that

Hosting a depleted
Bear Cubs squad, the Beavers benefited from strong performances in
key singles matches to remain unbeaten. No. 2 Reed Stout and No. 3
Derek Brollier both won in straight sets, but the team victory was
sealed when Mike Pentz pulled of a 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 win at No. 4. ARC
won two of the three doubles matches, but things will be different
when the Beavers travel to Santa Rosa on March 27. “They had three
players missing due to injury or sickness,” said Coach Bo Jabery-Madison.
“They will be even tougher next time.” |

ankle injury, and fought back to win the deciding set 6-3. All the
other singles matches were won in straight sets, except No.6 Robert
Lester, who won by default. Michael Pentz and Derek Brollier teamed

The Beavers topped
the competitive Dons with an impressive singles sweep at one through

before the contest was abandoned due to darkness. The sweep in the
top three spots marked the second consecutive tight match the
Beavers have pulled off the feat. No. 1 Avi Kudupudi won in
straight sets, Reed Stout came from behind to win in three at No. 2,
and Derek Brollier swept at No. 3 to set up the team victory.
Robert Lester earned a three-set win at No. 6. In doubles play,

paired with Michael Pentz to take the No. 2 match. Lester and Jon
Lup won the first match at No. 3, but trailed 4-1 in the second set

garnered ARC enough points to finish third in the 14-team field,
being edged by Chabot and Baskersfield. Reed Stout, Derek Brollier,
Michael Pentz, and Robert Lester each advanced the third round of
his flight, but No. 5 Kevin Van Streefkerk went one step further,
advancing to his flight’s final. In the round, Van Streefkerk fell
to Bakersfield’s Josh Halpin 6-4, 6-1. In doubles, Lester teamed
with Jonathan Lup at No. 3 and advanced all the way to the finals,
where they dropped a 7-5, 6-3 match. |

No. 4 Michael Pentz and No. 5 Kevin Van Streefkerk won their matches
