2005 Review

The 2005 season was another successful year for American River College men’s tennis. As a team the Beavers reached the state quarterfinals and finished the year with a state ranking of #8. Individually, #15 Paul Komorniczak (Casa Roble High School) and #20 Erwin Briones (Rio Americano High School) finished with state singles rankings. Komorniczak and Briones also teamed up to finish the year #6 in the state doubles rankings, the highest ranking for an A.R.C. doubles team in 13 years. In addition to on-court success, the Beavers excelled in the classroom with a 3.34 team GPA. Congratulations guys! Let’s keep it up in 2006!

 Highlights:

  • Flight 1 singles:  In the second round Komorniczak battles back from a set down and down 3-1 in the second set to win 6-4 in the third. He combined a sound game plan with a lot of heart and fitness to pull out a great victory against a tough player.
  • Flight 2 singles:  Briones rebounds from a tough draw to dominate the backdraw.
  • Flight 3 singles:  Dumesnil beats two players less than half his age (46) to reach semis.
  • Flight 4 singles:  Hawe battles the number three seed and serves for the match in the second, but eventually falls to the tough young player who is less than half his age (44).
  • Flight 6 singles:  Regragui wins two three set matches to reach semis.  In the first round match he comes back from 5-2 down in the third set to win.
  • Flight 1 doubles:  In the semis Komorniczak/Briones play an extremely high quality match in losing a close 6-4, 7-5 match to number one seed Fresno .

2004 Review

The 2004 season was another successful season for ARC men's tennis. As a team we finished with a #8 state ranking. Individually,  (#13) Paul Komorniczak (Casa Roble High School) and (#20) Miguel Camino (Foothill High School) finished with state rankings. American River's #1 doubles team of Miguel Camino and Erwin Briones (Rio Americano High School)  finished the season with a state ranking of #15 and Paul Komorniczak (Casa Roble High School) and Lukas Burger (Davis High School) were ranked #11 in the state. Congratulations guys! Let's keep it up in 2005!
