2005 Season Review 

In the Big 7 Tournament, the Beavers won the play-in game against Solano, 13-5.  In tournament action, ARC lost to Merced 15-5 and then played for fifth place against Delta, but lost 12-6.   Jure Belamarich ended the season with 82 goals and 81 steals and was named to the All-Big 7 first team, as well as earning All-American recognition.

Diablo Valley 18, ARC 10  4-19 Overall  1-5 Conference
Against another of the conference’s top squads, the Beavers were able to generate some offense, but the Vikings answered with an outstanding offensive performance.  Jure Belamarich continues to lead the Beavers in key categories:  scoring with 72 goals, 75 steals, and 32 ejections drawn.

Modesto 12, ARC 9 4-18 Overall  1-4 Conference
The Beavers played the Big 7’s top team to a 7-7 tie with four minutes to go in the fourth quarter, but the Pirates were able to pull away from ARC with a 5-2 run.

UC Davis JV 12, ARC 2  4-17 Overall 1-3 Conference
Despite the loss, the Beavers got great exposure to a high level of competition in the non-conference match.

Delta 14, ARC 7 4-16 Overall  1-3 Conference
Down only 8-6 going into the fourth quarter, the Mustangs pulled off the conference win by going on a 6-1 run.

ARC 11, Southwestern 4 4-14 Overall

The Beavers jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the Jaguars by the end of the first quarter, and everyone was able to play as they coasted to the win.  Keeper Barrett Carlton turned in another fine performance, as he did in the final three games of the tournament.  As he has been all season, Jure Belamarich was the catalyst on offense against Southwestern and the entire tournament.  In the last five games, Belamarich has scored 18 goals, giving him a team-leading 59 for the season, an average of three goals a game.

  ARC 12, Cabrillo 6 3-14 Overall  1-1 Conference

On the final day of the tournament, the Beavers picked up two solid victories.  The first came against the Seahawks in a match that was close for the first half.  In the third period, ARC ran off a 4-0 run to take control of the game.

Chaffey 12, ARC 4  2-14 Overall 

1-1 Conference

In their second game of the tournament, the Beavers were never really in the game with the Panthers, according to Coach Eric Black.

Citrus 12, ARC 6 2-13 Overall 1-1 Conference

Going into the final quarter, the Owls were up 8-6, but they blanked the Beavers in the final period en route to the opening round win in San Luis Obispo.

Merced 14, ARC 9 2-12 Overall 1-1 Conference

With four minutes to play in the fourth quarter, the Beavers trailed 11-8, but the Blue Devils pulled away in the final few minutes to take the conference win.

The Beavers picked up a tough road win to open conference play, beating the Falcons for the second time this season.  The victory was keyed by the defense—led by Jure Belamarich’s six steals and five saves by keeper Barrett Carlton—which played well for four quarters.  On the offensive side, Belamarich also set the pace, rifling in four goals.  Rob Gillis added two goals, and Chad and Craig Rinde each finished with one to round out the balanced attack.

OCTOBER 1, 2005

Fullerton 11, ARC 5  1-11 Overall   0-0 Conference

Playing its fourth top-ranked team in 48 hours, the Beavers competed for four quarters with the seventh-ranked Hornets.  “The guys finally started to get physical,” said Coach Eric Black.  “It was our best effort of the year.”  Jure Belamarich continued his scoring onslaught with three more goals—giving him 28 for the season—and Rob Gillis and Harry Reich each added one.  Barrett Carlton turned back 10 Fullerton shots on goal.

Cuesta 9, ARC 2 1-10 Overall     0-0 Conference

In a rematch with the Cougars, the Beavers turned in their best effort of the season.  According to Coach Eric Black, his all-freshman team generated offense, played better in transition defense, and showed signs of understanding water polo.  Jure Belamarich scored the only two goals for ARC, and keeper Barrett Carlton had nine saves.

Long Beach City 16, ARC 4   1-9 Overall   0-0 Conference

Not content with an easy afternoon, the Beavers took on the second-ranked team in the state in the second half of the double header.  Jure Belamarich tallied two scores while Jesse Phillips and Harry Reich each added one.

Golden West 12, ARC 2    1-8 Overall   0-0 Conference

Coach Eric Black noted that the team played hard for four quarters against the Rustlers, the third-ranked team in the state.  Jure Belamarich had the only two goals for the Beavers, who were hosting their first tournament in 25 years.

Ventura 11, ARC 5  1-7 Overall  0-0 Conference

The Beavers turned in an improved for three quarters and generated more offense, but still had difficulty finishing against the Pirates.  Jure Belamarich had two goals while Jesse Phillips, Harry Reich, and Craig Rindel each had one.

Diablo Valley 12, ARC 7 1-6 Overall  0-0 Conference

The Beavers got down 9-0 to the Vikings before they got any offense going.  Jure Belamarich led ARC with three goals, Jesse Phillips had two, and Harry Reich and Rob Gillis each had one as the team overcame some poor play early to make a run at DVC.

SEPTEMBER 16, 2005

Cuesta 12, ARC 5  1-5 Overall  0-0 Conference

Playing their second match of the day against a highly-ranked team, the Beavers got three goals from Jure Belamarich and one each from Jesse Phillips and Harry Reich.  The Cougars are ranked sixth in the state.

Cerritos 14, ARC 4  1-4 Overall   0-0 Conference

Against the Falcons, the fourth-ranked team in the state, the Beavers played hard but never really got in the game.  Jure Belamarich had two goals, and Craig Rinde and Jesse Phillips each scored once.

VALLEY COLLEGE TOURNAMENT-SEPTEMBER 9/10, 2005

SEPTEMBER 10, 2005

ARC 7, Solano 6  1-3 Overall 0-0 Conference

The Beavers’ first win of the season and first in 25 years came against Coach Eric Black’s former squad.  Despite jumping out to a 2-0 lead early, ARC did not play well the rest of the match, but still hung on for the victory.  Rob Gillis and Jure Belamarich each had two scores; Chad Rinde and Thad David rounded out the scoring with one goal each.  Goalie Barrett Carlton turned back 11 Falcon shots on goal to key the defensive effort.

Santa Rosa 12, ARC 4  0-3 Overall 0-0 Conference

The Beavers were able to create more offense, but they were unable to finish consistently in falling to the Bear Cubs.  ARC turned in another good first half.  Jure Belamarich tallied another two goals while Rob Gillis and Craig Rinde each added one.

SEPTEMBER 9, 2005

Merced 8, ARC 1  0-2 Overall  0-0 Conference

The Beavers played a strong first half, trailing only 2-1 after a Jure Belamarich score, but they ran out of gas in the second half.  Coach Eric Black noted a much improved effort from his team.

West Valley 20, ARC 6 0-1 Overall  0-0 Conference

Playing their first men’s water polo game in 25 years, the Beavers, fielding a team of freshmen, fell to a strong Viking squad.  Jure Belamarich had four goals and four steals to lead ARC, which also got goals from Chad Rinde and Rob Gillis.  Keeper Barrett Carlton had six saves.
