STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT
november 16-17, 2007
Santa Rosa 7, ARC 6 14-13-0 Overall 5-1-0 Conference

The Beavers fell to the Bear Cubs for the fourth time this season, and again it came down to the wire.  After dropping an 8-3 decision in a Big 8 game in October, ARC lost 11-10 in the second round of conference play, and Santa Rosa topped ARC in the first round of the Big 8 playoffs.  In Fresno, the Beavers jumped to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter and led 4-2 at the half.  But the Bear Cubs took the lead with four goals in the third period and then held off an ARC surge in the final quarter.  ARC’s Marton Toth scored two of his game-high four goals in the fourth quarter to tie the game, but with two and half minutes left to play Santa Rosa’s Lance Morrison scored out of set to decide the game.  Sebastian Cordoba and Rory Collinwood each scored a goal for ARC.

Golden West 18, ARC 5 14-12-0 Overall 5-1-0 Conference

The Beavers, competing in the State Tournament for the first tie in school history, opened with the loss to the Rustlers, the top seed in the South.  Five different players scored for ARC:   Robert Blakeley, Sebastian Cordoba, Antony Heiland, Chris Maldonado, and Alexander Newcomb.  The loss gives the Beavers a rematch with Big 8 rival Santa Rosa, which has beaten ARC in three close games this fall.

NorCal Tournament
november 9-10, 2007
The Beavers qualified for the State Championships for the first time in school history by defeating Cabrillo 12-11 in the third place game. Earlier, ARC defeated Merced 12-6, and lost a semi final game to Santa Rosa 6-3. Sophomores Antony Heiland and Sebastian Cordoba were largely responsible for the offense, scoring three goals each in the third place game against Cabrillo.  The win gives ARC a first round game with undefeated and No. 1 Golden West at 8:00 am in Fresno this Friday, Nov.16, and a rematch with Santa Rosa at noon.

Big 8 Conference Tournament
november 2-3, 2007

The Beavers lost in the conference finals against top-ranked Santa Rosa in overtime, 11-10.  The Beavers led by two goals in the second period, and they were leading by one going into the final quarter.  The Bear Cubs, however, tied the match up in regulation, sending the game into overtime.  In the extra period, ARC fell behind by two but tied the game with 12 seconds remaining, sending the game into sudden death.  Santa Rosa scored with three seconds left in the first sudden death period.  ARC, which earned a No. 3 seed, will compete in this weekend’s NorCal tournament at Foothill College, where the Beavers will open with a rematch with Big 8 opponent Merced at 1:15 on Friday.  A win would advance ARC into the semifinals, where they will likely earn another shot at Santa Rosa.

The Mountaineers climbed past the Beavers in the final game of ARC’s tournament.  Mt. SAC, ranked 7th in California, held off a late push by ARC.  With 11 seconds remaining in the match, the Beavers appeared to have scored, but the goal was not allowed.

Cuesta 15, ARC 11 5-5 Overall 1-0 Conference

Continuing a streak against some of the state’s top teams, the Beavers benefited from balanced scoring—as they did the entire tournament—but fell to the No. 4-ranked Cougars in a very physical game.

Long Beach City 9, ARC 6 5-4 Overall   1-0 Conference

The Vikings, ranked third in the state, came from behind in the final period to top the Beavers.

ARC 8, Fullerton 6 5-3 Overall  1-0 Conference

The host Beavers edged the Hornets in the first round of the tournament at Orangevale Pool.  This match turned out to be the only contest where the opponent was not ranked among the top seven teams in the state.

Cuesta Tournament 3-3 Overall  0-0 Conference

Showing what Coach Eric Black described as overall improvement, the Beavers turned in another solid weekend in San Luis Obispo.  For the second consecutive tournament, ARC beat Diablo Valley, this time 7-5.  The Beavers followed the win with a 9-6 loss to No. 4 ranked Cuesta and a 12-4 setback to No. 3 Long Beach.  ARC also played an exhibition with Cal Poly, losing 8-5, but every player on the roster had the chance to compete.

West Valley Tournament 2-1 Overall  0-0 Conference

The Beavers opened the season with an impressive showing in Saratoga.  ARC edged Big 8 opponent Diablo Valley 7-6 in the first round, and then fell to a strong Cuesta squad 10-2 in the second round before finishing the tournament with a 14-7 win over Merced.
