Diablo Valley 5, ARC 3 19-24-1 Overall  8-13 Conference

In the final game of the season, the Beavers again built a lead on the Vikings, scoring three times in the 2nd inning.  Nayeli Mayer led the offense with three hits, and Samantha Tervo, Katrina Newman, and Trista Rossi each added a pair of singles as ARC finished with 12 hits.  But the long ball brought Diablo Valley back as two home runs triggered back-to-back two-run innings and the margin the Vikings needed to hang on for the win.

Diablo Valley 6, ARC 2  19-23-1 Overall  8-12 Conference

The Beavers jumped out to a two-run lead with a Katrina Newman solo home run and an RBI-single by Nayeli Mayer, but the Vikings roared back with a five-run 4th inning to take the first of two Big 8 games.  Newman also had two hits in the game.   ARC committed three errors behind pitcher Stephanie Burlew, resulting in five unearned runs.

Cosumnes River 2, ARC 0  19-22-1 Overall 8-11 Conference

In the second game, Katrina Newman went 2-for-2, but she had the only hits for the Beavers’ offense.  Stephanie Burlew and Newman combined for a solid pitching performance, giving up just four hits and two runs—both unearned—against the Hawks.

Cosumnes River 11, ARC 3 19-21-1 Overall 8-10 Conference

The Beavers committed seven errors that led to 11 unearned runs in the Big 8 loss to the Hawks.  To complicate matters, the offense was unable to put together timely hits finishing with just four hits in the game.  Samantha Tervo doubled home Stephanie Burlew in the first inning, and Burlew and Christine Alvarez both had RBI singles in the loss.  Burlew also had a steal in the game, adding to her state-leading total of 43.

Sacramento City 6, ARC 0 19-20-1 Overall 8-9 Conference

For the second time in a day, Stephanie Burlew accounted for all of the Beavers’ hit output, finishing 2-for-2, including a double, in the second game with the Panthers.  ARC surrendered five runs in the first inning and never cut into the lead during the five-inning game.

Sacramento City 10, ARC 0  19-19-1 Overall  8-8 Conference

The Beavers were one-hit by the Panthers in the first of two Big 8 Conference games. Stephanie Burlew collected the lone hit by ARC, and she pitched the first five innings of the contest.

Sierra 8, ARC 1 19-18-1 Overall 8-7 Conference

The Beavers again scored a run in the top of the first, but this time the Wolverines did not wait until extra innings to decide the contest.  Sierra took the lead in the second and then put it out of reach with a three-run fifth inning.  Nayeli Mayer led the team with two hits and drove in the only ARC run.

Sierra 2, ARC 1 19-17-1 Overall  8-6 Conference

In the first of a pair with the Wolverines, the Beavers scored first but could not answer in extra innings as Sierra edged ARC in eight innings.  Katrina Newman paced the offense with two hits and the only run batted in, scoring Stephanie Burlew in the first inning.

ARC 5, Modesto 0 19-16-1 Overall 8-5 Conference

The Beavers came back in the second game to split the doubleheader with the Pirates.  Stephanie Burlew shut down the Modesto offense and the defense was flawless behind her.  ARC also benefited from seven Modesto errors which led to five unearned runs.  Nayeli Mayer had two hits and drove in a run, and the only other player to drive across a run was Katrina Newman, who scored Samantha Tervo with a sacrifice fly.

Modesto 3, ARC 0  18-16-1Overall  7-5 Conference

Stephanie Burlew gave up only one earned run, but the Pirates made the most of timely hits as they blanked the Beavers in Modesto.  Samantha Tervo went 2-or-2 at the plate, but as a team, ARC collected only four hits.

ARC 1, Santa Rosa 0   18-15-1 Overall 7-4 Conference

The Beavers bounced back in the second game, getting back in the win column with a pitching gem from Stephanie Burlew, who gave up only five hits and struck out nine.  Burlew, now 18-10 on the season, is second in the state in strikeouts with 169 in 187.2 innings pitched.  Valerie Slauson provided all the offense Burlew would need when she drove Nayeli Mayer across with a first-inning single.  Slauson and Mayer each finished with two hits.  ARC is now in third place in the Big 8 and currently ranks in a tie for 10th in the NorCal rankings.

Santa Rosa 5, ARC 3 17-15-1 Overall 6-4 Conference

The Beavers snapped a four-game Big 8 win streak with the loss to the Bear Cubs.  ARC pounded out seven hits, but could produce only three runs.  Nayeli Mayer had two hits and a run batted in, and Ashley Mendez finished with a pair of singles.  Valerie Slauson and Stephanie Burlew each drove in a run with a single.


april 1, 2008
ARC 2, Delta 1 17-14-1 Overall 6-3 Conference

The Beavers completed the doubleheader sweep with another stellar pitching performance from Stephanie Burlew, who almost repeated her outing earlier in the day.  In the second game, Burlew gave up six hits, one earned run, but only struck out five.  On the offensive side, she again generated offense with another hit, a run, and two stolen bases.  Nayeli Mayer and Sali Lopez drove in the two ARC runs with RBI singles.

ARC 3, Delta 2 16-14-1 Overall  5-3 Conference

The Beavers out hit the Mustangs and took advantage of four Delta errors to earn the pivotal Big 8 Conference game. Stephanie Burlew pitched a six-hitter, surrendering only one earned run and striking out six.Burlew also ignited the offense with a hit, a run, and four steals, giving her a state-leading 39 in 31 games.  Samantha Tervo, Katrina Newman, and Valerie Slauson each delivered run-scoring hits.

The Beavers took their third game out of four in two days with the win over the Cougars.
ARC 5, Ohlone 1 14-14-1 Overall  4-3 Conference
The Beavers beat the Renegades as Stephanie Burlew tossed a four-hitter.

Siskiyous 7, ARC 4 13-14-1 Overall 4-3 Conference

The Beavers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but they then surrendered six to the Golden Eagles in the next two innings, a lead ARC could not overcome.

ARC 10, Redwoods 0   13-13-1 Overall 4-3 Conference

The Beavers scored eight runs in the first four innings against the Corsairs, and the game was called after five innings.

ARC 6, Diablo Valley 5 12-13-1 Overall 4-3 Conference

The Beavers had to go eight innings to pick up the win over the Vikings, putting them into a tie for third place in the Big 8.  ARC pounded out 10 hits, including three doubles, to earn the win.  Nayeli Mayer finished with three hits and scored two runs.  Katrina Newman and Stephanie Burlew each added two hits and scored a run.  Burlew, who added two stolen bases to her state-leading total of 33, also pitched all eight innings and picked up the win to improve her record to 12-9.  Burlew also ranks among the state’s pitchers in strike outs; she is now ninth with 124 after fanning eight Vikings.

ARC 3, Cosumnes River 2 11-13-1 Overall  3-3 Conference

The Beavers finally found enough offense, scoring a run in each of the last two innings to come from behind and edge the Hawks.  Stephanie Burlew fired another gem, allowing only three CRC hits as she picked up the win.  She is now has an 11-9 record on the season and is fifth in the state with 116 strikeouts.  Burlew also leads the state with 31 steals in 32 attempts.  Trista Rossi provided the offensive spark for ARC, collecting three hits in three trips to the plate.

Sacramento City 9, ARC 0  10-13-1 Overall 2-3 Conference

For the second game in a row, the Beavers had difficulty generating offense.  ARC finished with just three hits, and the Panthers pounded out 11 on their way to the shutout.  Stephanie Burlew, Samantha Tervo, and Katrina Newman each finished with a single, but the Beavers could not put across any base runners.

Sierra 5, ARC 1  10-12-1 Overall   2-2 Conference

The Beavers gave up ten hits and made four errors, and the Wolverines capitalized in the Big 8 contest.  Pitchers Stephanie Burlew and Talia Jarmillo each had difficulty with Sierra, which repeatedly put runners on base and hit two home runs.  Offensively, ARC scattered five hits.

ARC 6, Modesto 4 10-11-1 Overall 2-1 Conference

The Beavers resumed league play with a win over the visiting Pirates.  Stephanie Burlew tossed a complete game, allowing just four hits and picking up five strikeouts.  ARC erupted for six runs in the third inning, and that was all the Beavers would need to record the victory.  Ashley Mendez and Katrina Newman each collected key two-run singles in the big inning.

Fresno 3, ARC 2  9-11-1 Overall  1-1 Conference

In Sunday’s game of the Bash at Buchanan, Stephanie Burlew locked up in a pitcher’s duel but came up short in the loss.  The ARC freshman surrendered just five hits and one earned run in her seven innings of work, but the ARC offense was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Katrina Newman went three-for-three at the plate, including a two-run home run, but the Beavers could only muster two other hits in the game.

Shasta 13, ARC 3 9-10-1 Overall  1-1 Conference

Playing their third game of the day, the Beavers ran into a hot Knights team that pounded out 16 hits en route to the win.  ARC also committed five errors in the contest.  Katrina Newman doubled home a run and Stephanie Burlew tripled in another as the Beavers totaled only four hits.

ARC 6, San Mateo 2   9-9-1 Overall 1-1 Conference

In the second game of the day, the Beavers tamed the Bulldogs as Stephanie Burlew tossed a four-hitter.  ARC again jumped out to an early lead, picking up three in the first inning, but this time they added to the margin with a run in the third and two more in the fourth to seal the win.

Saddleback 10, ARC 2 8-9-1 Overall 1-1 Conference

The Beavers opened the Bash at Buchanan with the loss to the Gauchos.  ARC jumped out to a 2-1 lead after two innings, but Saddleback answered with five in the third inning and three more in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Santa Rosa 5, ARC 4 8-8-1 Overall 1-1 Conference

The Beavers finished with only six hits and gave up a big five-run third inning in the conference loss to the Bear Cubs.  Valerie Slauson accounted for much of the ARC offense; she was the only player with two hits, and she drove in two runs.  Katrina Newman and Nayeli Mayer each drove in runs in the first inning with singles, but it was not enough to top Santa Rosa.

ARC 3, Delta 1 8-7-1 Overall  1-0 Conference

Stephanie Burlew struck out 13 en route to a complete game four-hitter, and the Beavers topped the Mustangs in the Big 8 opener for both schools.  Burlew, who improved her season record to 8-4, did not give up a run until the bottom of the 7th, and it was unearned.  Burlew, Katrina Newman, and Valerie Slauson were the only ARC players to get a hit, but the Beavers were able to string together timely hitting with some good base running to produce enough runs to win.

ARC 9, Fresno City 4 7-7-1 Overall   0-0 Conference

The Beavers broke the game open in the 7th inning, erupting for five runs to post the non-conference win.  As she has for most of the season, Stephanie Burlew ignited the offense, going three-for-three at the plate, including a triple, two stolen bases, and three runs scored.  Burlew did not limit herself to the offensive side, tossing a complete-game four-hitter.  Ashley Mendez and Nayeli Mayer each had two hits in the win.

Lassen 8, ARC 4  6-7-1 Overall  0-0 Conference

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Cougars scored seven runs over the 3rd and 4th innings, putting the game out of reach for the Beavers.  Stephanie Burlew had three hits, three stolen bases, and two runs scored, and she threw the first six inning of the contest before giving way to Talia Jarmillo.

ARC 5, Lassen 3  6-6-1 Overall  0-0 Conference
The Beavers had to come from behind to get past the Cougars in the non-league match up.  Stephanie Burlew pitched the entire game, surrendering no earned runs while striking out seven.  Burlew also had two hits and two runs scored.  Ashley Mendez had two hits and two runs scored.

ARC 8, Yuba 0 5-6-1 Overall   0-0 Conference

The Beavers kept the offense in gear in the second with the 49ers, putting up eight runs in a shortened game.  Katrina Newman went three-for-three at the plate and drove in three runs to lead the ARC attack.  Valerie Slauson had two hits, and Stephanie Burlew, Samantha Tervo, and Katrina Newman each scored two runs.  Burlew, who also had three steals, notched another victory, throwing four innings of shut out ball before giving way to Jarmillo Talia.

ARC 7, Yuba 1  4-6-1 Overall  0-0 Conference

Stephanie Burlew, Samantha Tervo, and Katrina Newman each rapped out two hits, and the trio combined to drive in four runs, score five times, and steal five bases as the Beavers rolled over the 49ers.  Burlew also pitched a complete game, allowing just five hits and no earned runs while striking out 11.

ARC 5, Solano 2 3-6-1 Overall   0-0 Conference

In the nightcap, the Beavers turned the tables and scored three times in the top of the 7th of a tie game and earn the win.  Stephanie Burlew, who pitched both games, gave up only one earned run the entire afternoon, and she limited Solano to just three hits in the second game.  On the offensive side, Burlew’s magic number was three as she matched Solano’s team output with three hits of her own, scored three times, and she added three stolen bases.  Katrina Newman had three hits and three runs batted in, and Ashley Mendez finished with a pair of singles in three trips to the plate.

Solano 4, ARC 3  2-6-1 Overall  0-0 Conference

The Beavers dropped the first of a pair of game with the Falcons after surrendering three runs in the final inning to send the game into extra innings.  Solano scored the game winner with two outs in the bottom of the 8th.  All four of the Falcons’ runs were unearned.  Stephanie Burlew and Katrina Newman each had two hits for ARC.

ARC 4, San Francisco City 2  2-5-1 Overall   0-0 Conference

Stephanie Burlew pounded out three hits and struck out 12 while pitching a complete game in the win over the Rams.  Burlew had a double and a pair of singles, drove in a run, scored a run, and stole two bases to ignite the ARC offense.  On the mound, Burlew limited San Francisco City to just four hits in picking up her second win of the season.  Crystal Bargas doubled home two runs, and Nayeli Mayer went two-for-three in the win.

San Jose City 3, ARC 1 1-5-1 Overall 0-0 Conference

In the second game of the day for the Beavers, ARC fell to the Jaguars.  The Beavers totaled only four hits but wasted another solid pitching performance from Stephanie Burlew.  Christine Alvarez drove in the only ARC run with a single in the second inning.

Ohlone 11, ARC 1   1-4-1 Overall 0-0 Conference

The Beavers opened a three-way double header with a loss to the Renegades.  Ohlone combined 11 hits and four ARC errors to control the game.  ARC finished with five hits, with Katrina Newman going two-for-three.

Sequoias 3, ARC 3 1-3-1 Overall  0-0 Conference

Valerie Slauson went three-for-three with an RBI, and Nayeli Mayer had two hits, but the Beavers and the Giants ran out of sunlight when the game was called in the 9th inning.

Sequoias 1, ARC 0  1-3 Overall   0-0 Conference

Stephanie Burlew hooked up in a pitcher’s battle, but the Beavers could not generate enough offense as they fell to the Giants in the nonleague matchup.  Burlew allowed only four hits and struck out six, but ARC’s offense was held to two hits in the game, one from Burlew and the other from Sali Lopez.

Hartnell 5, ARC 0 

 1-2 Overall   0-0 Conference

In the nightcap, the Beavers offense was shut down by the Panthers as ARC could muster only two hits the entire contest.  Katrina Newman and Crystal Bargas were the only ARC players to punch out a hit.

ARC 6, Hartnell 3  1-1 Overall 0-0 Conference

The Beavers notched their first win of the year by topping the Panthers in the first game of a doubleheader.  Katrina Newman, Sali Lopez, and Samantha Tervo each drove in a two runs to pace the offense.  Tervo finished with two hits, one of which was an RBI double.  Stephanie Burlew, who went the distance to pick up the win, scored four times in the game.


february 1, 2008

 Cabrillo 11, ARC 10  

 0-1 Overall  0-0 Conference

The Beavers opened the season on the road against the Seahawks and, despite finishing with 10 hits and 10 runs, gave up five runs in the final two innings to let Cabrillo come from behind and pull out the win.  After five innings, ARC ran out to a 10-5 lead, but it would prove to be not enough as the Seahawks came up with three runs in the 6th and two more to win with one out in the 7th.  The ARC offense showed some potency in the season opener.  Stephanie Burlew, Ashley Mendez, and Nayeli Mayer each collected two hits, and Mendez, Samantha Tervo, and Katrina Newman each drove in a pair of runners.
