Big 7 Conference Finals

The Beavers finished fourth in the meet at Delta, but Anne Scott led a list of outstanding individual performances.  Scott swam to two new state records as she won all three of the individual events in which she competed.  Scott, who was named the Big 7 Performer of the Year, won the 50 free (23.32, a league record), 100 free (50.78, now a state standard), and 200 free (1:51.11, also a state record).  She earned the top seed in all three events at the State Meet May 3-5 at Ohlone College.  Melissa Maestas qualified for the State Meet in three events, all done with lifetime best marks:  the 50 free (26.05), the 50 breast (32.93), and the 100 breast (1:13.40).  Rochelle Yomogida turned in a personal best in the 50 free (26.63) and a season-best in the 50 back (31.56); she also covered the 100 back in 1:09.12.  Jessica Williams had her lifetime best in the 100 back (1:09.61), a season-best in the 500 free (6:08.9), and a 200 individual medley time of 2:35.18.  Ali Pierce also had an outstanding meet, finishing with personal bests in the 100 fly (1:07.91) and the 50 fly (30.88).  Hadleigh West and Lauren Merrill both earned evening swims and scored point in the 50 breast and 100 free.  In the relays, all five teams qualified for the State Meet.  The 200 free team of Scott, Pierce, Yomogida, and Maestas finished third in the Big 7 with a 1:43.40 time.  The foursome also placed third in the 400 medley relay with a 4:221.07 mark and fourth in the 200 MR (1:58.40).  ARC also qualified to compete in the 400 and 800 free relays.

Diablo Valley 110, Sierra 44, ARC 43, Santa Rosa 42

At the Big 7 Quad Meet at Diablo Valley, Anne Scott highlighted the Beavers’ performance with a record-setting swim by Anne Scott, who broke her own school record in the 200 free with a 1:53.65 time—one second off the State mark.  Melissa Maestas turned in her best performance of the season with a personal best 26.55 in the 50 free and a 33.66 in the 50 breast, her first time breaking 34 seconds.  Shalyse Martin won the 1m and 3m diving events with her best scores of the spring.  The women’s 200 free relay team closed the meet with its best time of the year, finishing in 1:45.54.  The team leads off with Maestas, who is followed by Ali Pierce and Rochelle Yomogida and anchored by Scott.

ARC 94, Cuesta 88
ARC 104, Citrus 73 5-1 Overall   

In a dual meet in San Luis Obispo, the Beavers turned in some strong performances in a tune-up prior to the Cuesta Invitational.  All the ARC women had an opportunity to swim off events and get a feel for the host Cougars’ pool.  Shalyse Martin again won both diving events.  In the swimming competition, Jessica Williams had her best 500 free swim, finishing third overall with a time of 6:13.50.  Anne Scott swam the 100 individual medley for the first time this spring, and turned in a time of 1:02.12, a State-qualifying mark.

ARC 138, Foothill 60 3-1 Overall  
The Beavers placed first every event in the meet against the Renegades and the Owls, including the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay.  ARC’s Shalyse Martin had her best day on the boards, winning both the 1- and 3-meter diving events.  Other outstanding individual performances included Rochelle Yomogida’s personal best 26.56 in winning the 50 free, and Melissa Maestas’s 59.59 in the 100 free.

ARC 68, Delta 22 1-1 Overall 0-0 Conference

The Beavers won every event against the Mustangs, led by Anne Scott’s dominating performance.  Scott set a new school record in the 200 free, with a time of 1:55.61, just edging the former record of 1:55.85.  She also won the 200 individual medley in 2:23.01 and the 100 back in 1:06.2.  Melissa Maestas won both of her individual races, the 100 free (finishing in 1:00.5) and the 100 breast (1:16.8).  Ali Pierce had a strong meet, winning the 100 fly in 1:09.01 and finishing second in the 200 IM in a time of 2:35.0.  Shalyse Martin won both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.

Modesto 42, ARC 36 0-0 Overall 0-0 Conference 

The Beavers were edged by the Pirates, but ARC still had some outstanding swims.  Anne Scott set a new school record in the 100 free, racing to a 52.47 mark.  Shalyse Martin won the 3m diving competition with teammate Kayla Smith on her heels, only 1.25 points behind.  ARC won six events, including the women’s 200 free relay.

NorCal Relays                                                  

The Beavers swam to a fourth place finish out of 13 teams in the season opener at Santa Rosa.  ARC divers Kayla Smith and Shalyse Martin dove as a pair and won both 1-meter and 3-meter boards, scoring 257.35 points for 1m and 280.25 for 3m.  In the swimming events, the 200 medley relay team of Rochelle Yomogida, Melissa Maestas, Ali Pierce, and Anne Scott finished second with a time of 2:00.85, and the team then won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:45.94, fast enough to qualify for states.  ARC was disqualified from four relays for early take offs; without these DQ’s the team would have finished second overall.
