Anne Scott highlighted the
Beavers’ performance at Saddleback College in Mission
Viejo. Scott, who was selected as the performer of the
State Meet, won all three events in which she competed. She
successfully defended her title in the 200 and 100 freestyle
and also claimed the state’s Fastest Woman title by again
winning the 50 free. |

Anne Scott
was named the Female Swimmer of the Year for the second time
as the sophomore swam to three first-place finishes and Big
8 records at the meet at Delta College. The Beavers took
fifth overall in the team standings. Scott won the 500 free
with a time of 5:10.28, the 50 free in 23.89, and the 50
breast in 30.93—all three times established new marks in the
Big 8. Every ARC swimmer swam a personal best at the meet.
Brittany Grimmett dropped 3.9 seconds in her 100 free with a
55.89 mark; she also improved on her personal best in the
200 free (2:05.16) and the 50 free (26.13). Megan Elbert
swam best times in the mile with a 1:40 drop, and she took
10 seconds off her previous best in the 500 free. Angela
LaVelle shaved six seconds in the 100 fly, winning the
consolation in a time of 1:05.94. The relay and team
strength was affected with Bri Smalley out with the flu. |

The Beavers
dominated the Mustangs in their second dual meet of the
spring. Ali Pierce, Anne Scott, Bre Summerfield, and Bri
Smalley teamed up in the 200 MR to turn in a season-best
1:58.75. Pierce also swam her best times in the 200 IM
(2:29.16), and Scott was clocked at a season-fastest 5:13.19
in the 500 free. |

The ARC
Alumi team of 24 former Beaver swimmers brought lots of
enthusiasm, fun, and speed to the event. The current ARC
squad had a great showing, winning the 50 free Shootout
Event with Anne Scott finishing in 23.52. Bri Smalley swam
a personal best 25.46 against Scott. |

The Beavers
beat the Knights by winning each individual and relay
event. Three ARC swimmers had season-best performances in
the 500 free: Michelle Kaplan (6:10.90), Megan Elbert
(5:57.17), and Katie Carlisle. |

Quad Meet |

The Beavers
were led by freshman Angela LaVelle’s strong performance in
the absence of Ali Pierce, who was away on a recruiting
trip. LaVelle swam with the “A” Medley relay team and
turned in a personal-best leg of 29.86. Bri Smalley had
great swims in the 100 free and 50 fly. Anne Scott won both
of her events, the 100 back (1:02.16) and the 100 breast
(1:10.89). |

The entire
team turned in solid performances as the Beavers finished
fifth in the field of 21 in San Luis Obispo. Each swimmer
had at least one season-best swim during the weekend. Bri
Smalley, Sarah Smith, Brittany Grimmett, and Anne Scott
combined to improve their 200 free relay time with a 1:44.24
mark and a second place finish. Individually, Smalley
bettered her 200 free time with a third-place 2:02.71
effort. Scott went an outstanding time of 51.70 in the 100
free. Michelle Kaplan swam 6:04.67 in the 500 free, four
second faster than the Quad Meet two days before. MaryAnn
Sutton turned in a personal best in the 100 breast, as did
Angela Lavelle in the 100 fly. |

The Beavers
placed second in the four-way meet held at Cuesta, trailing
southern power Ventura but topping host Cuesta and
Bakersfield. The highlight of the meet was the 200 Medley
Relay team’s season-best 2:00.01. Bri Smalley swam the
first leg in 31.9, Anne Scott followed with a 31.41, Ali
Pierce picked up the pace with a 29.8, and Brittany Grimmett
brought it home with a sizzling 26.5. Other top
performances included Smalley’s 2:03.02 in the 200 free;
Pierce’s personal best 2:27.9 in the 200 IM; Michelle Kaplan
dropped 14 seconds in the 500 free with a personal-best
6:08.02; the 200 free relay team won with a time of 1:45.6;
and, swimming in her first meet, Sarah Smith was a contender
in both of her races, clocking a 28.04 in the 50 free and a
1:11.8 in the 100 back. |

The Beavers
took ninth out of 22 teams, and Anne Scott set a meet record
in the 50 free with a time of 23.87. The speedy sophomore
also won three other events, picking up firsts in the 100
free (in a time of 52.41), 50 breast (31.54), and as the
anchor of the 200 medley relay team (1:54.33). She also
swam on the second-place 500 free relay team, which finished
in 5:16.51. Michelle Kaplan swam the 1650 free for the
first time, clocking a 22:05.98 and ninth place. Bri
Smalley finished in the top five in all her events: 100
free (57.80), 50 free (26.55), and the 50 fly (29.86). |

Anne Scott
continued her dominance of the state in the short freestyle
events and the 50 breaststroke, and the Beavers were able to
get in a much-needed meet by going indoors and avoiding bad
weather. Ali Pierce had a great meet with a time of 1:07.85
for fifth in the 100 IM and a 30.53 for a ninth place finish
in the 50 fly. Teresa Rojas dropped six seconds in her 100
free time, and Bre Summerfield swam a 30.57 in the 50 fly. |
