Ojai Valley Tournament

3-9 Overall  

2-4 Conference

At the 107th annual event in Ventura, one of the toughest tournaments of the season, the Beavers had two athletes compete.  Erika Ames won her Round of 128 singles match against Kim Sor, 6-0, 6-1, but she fell to Kathy Dennis 6-1, 6-2 in the Round of 64.  Erika Behring dropped her first singles match, losing to Joanna Moya 6-3, 6-3 in the Round of 64.  Ames and Behring teamed up in doubles play, winning their Round of 128 match with Jacqueline Labeck and Leia Perkins, 6-0, 6-2.  The pair lost a three-set battle with Czarina Puffelis and Charla Tinsley 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the Round of 64.

Sacramento City 5, ARC 0

3-9 Overall 

2-4 Conference

In the opening round of the regional playoffs, the Beavers fell to the host Panthers.  Sac City won the first five singles matches, making the final result and doubles play unnecessary.


april 12-14, 2007

Big 7 Conference Tournament

ARC’s Erica Behring was named as an at-large singles entrant into the NorCal Tournament after the meet in Santa Rosa.  Behring is joined by another at-large bid, doubles partners Angelica Montoya and Meghan Keever.  The three will compete May 3-5 in Fresno.

Chabot 6, ARC 3

3-9 Overall

2-4 Conference

The Beavers split the singles matches but were swept in doubles play as they dropped a non-conference match with the Gladiators.  No. 4 Angelica Montoya won a tie-breaker to take her match, No. 5 Linda Hernandez eased to a 6-1, 6-0 win, and No. 6 Denise Myrick won by default.

ARC 7, Diablo Valley 2 

3-8 Overall 

2-4 Conference

The Beavers dropped the Vikings for the second time in Big 7 play as five singles players posted two-set victories.  No. 2 Erika Ames began the streak that continued through No. 3 Angelica Montoya, Meghan Keever, Linda Hernandez, and through No. 6 Denise Myrick.  During the sweep, no player lost more than three games in a set.  In doubles, the No. 1 team of Erika Behring and Ames won in two, and the No. 2 pair of Montoya and Keever won by default.

Santa Rosa 5, ARC 4

2-8 Overall

1-4 Conference

The Beavers split the singles matches but lost the Big 7 contest when the Bear Cubs took two out of three doubles matches.  No. 3 Meghan Keever won 6-4, 7-5, and Linda Hernandez and Aiza Castro won by default, making the match even going into doubles play.  Santa Rosa won the first two matches to seal the victory.

The Beavers sent only one match to three sets as the Wolverines posted the Big 7 win.  Erika Ames won the first set of her match at No. 2, but lost the second 3-6 and was blanked in the deciding sets.

ARC 6, Diablo Valley 3  

2-6 Overall

1-2 Conference

The Beavers picked up their first Big 7 win with the decision over the Vikings.  ARC lost the first two singles matches but swept the final four to gain the advantage going into doubles play.  The No. 2 doubles team of Kristena Rump and Aiza Castro picked up the decisive win to seal the match for ARC.  No. 3 Erika Ames shutout her opponent 6-0, 6-0, No. 4 Nikki Schuette won 6-1, 6-1, No. 5 Linda Hernandez lost her first set 6-7, but came in the next two to win the match, and Denise Myrick won by default at No. 6.

Linda Hernandez and Denise Myrick won their singles matches to highlight the Big 7 loss to the Bear Cubs.  Hernandez won at No. 4, 6-4, 6-4, and Myrick breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5.

0-1 Conference

The Beavers opened Big 7 play with one of the area’s top teams, falling to the Wolverines in straight sets.  Linda Hernandez turned in one of the more competitive matches at No. 6, and two of the three doubles pairs pushed their opponents.

Cuesta 5, ARC 4

1-4 Overall

0-0 Conference

Playing a unique doubleheader, the Beavers traveled up Highway 101 to face the Cougars in the afternoon.  Like the morning’s match, ARC entered knowing it would default two matches because of illness, making the narrow loss even more difficult.  The Beavers won three singles matches with strong performances.  No. 3 Erika Ames won 8-2, No. 4 Linda Hernandez won 8-3, and No. 5 Denise Myrick won 8-2.  In doubles action, Ames and Hernandez paired up for a convincing 8-1 decision at No. 2.

Allan Hancock 6, ARC 3

1-3 Overall

 0-0 Conference

The Beavers opened the day with a morning match with the Bulldogs.  Before the match began, ARC had to default two matches due to illness, and the two-match setback resulted in the loss. No. 2 singles Angelica Montoya posted an impressive 7-6, 6-4 win, and Denise Myrick outlasted her opponent at No. 5, leading 6-0, 4-4 before Kim Sor retired. The No. 1 doubles team of Erika Behring and Montoya cruised to an 8-1 win.


february 2, 2007

Modesto 5, ARC 4

1-2 Overall

0-0 Conference

In the second match of the day at Modesto, the Beavers were edged by the Pirates, who took two of the final three doubles matches.  ARC was even after doubles play as Erika Behring (No. 1), Meghan Keever (No. 2), and Linda Hernandez (No. 6) earned solid wins.  And after the No. 2 doubles team of Nikki Schuetze and Angelica Montoya picked up a win, the match came down to the final doubles match.  In the finale, Erika Ames and Hernandez made it close, but got edged 8-4 at No. 3.

ARC 7, Fresno City 2

1-1 Overall 

0-0 Conference

The Beavers breezed past the Rams in Modesto to register their first dual match win of the season.  ARC picked up five wins in singles play and then two out of three doubles matches.  No. 2 Meghan Keever, No. 3 Nikki Schuetze, No. 4 Angelica Montoya, and No. 5 Erika Ames all won in straight sets; Linda Hernandez won by default.  In doubles, Schuetze and Montoya teamed up to win at No. 2; the other win was by default.

Sacramento City 5, ARC 3

0-1 Overall

0-0 Conference

The Beavers and the Panthers fought off the cold but finally gave in to the elements when the final doubles match was called due to darkness.  ARC took only two singles matches, leaving the squad looking for a sweep of the doubles to earn a win in the season opener.  But Sac City’s Mandi Valle and Amanda Dewey held off ARC’s No. 1 doubles team of Erika Behring and Meghan Keever to give the Panthers an insurmountable edge.  Keever and Angelica Montoya picked up the victories in singles; Keever swept the No. 2 match 6-4, 6-4, and Montoya did likewise at No. 4, 6-2, 6-4.  Montoya teamed up with Niki Schuetze to earn a win at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 7-5.
